Prof. Kishore Babu Nagumothu

Dr. Nagumothu Kishore Babu is currently working as a Professor and Head of the department since October 2023 in the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India. Prior to this role, from April 2018 to June 2023, he served as an Associate Professor in the same department. Additionally, from 2014 to 2016, he worked as a scientist at EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology), Switzerland. From 2010 to 2014, he worked as a scientist in Joining Technology Group, Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), Singapore.  He did post-doctoral research in the Safety of Joined Components division of the Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany in 2009.  He did his masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He received a PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India.  He has published 60+ peer-reviewed publications in Journals/conferences and a book chapter. In view of his valuable contributions in welding research, Dr. Kishore Babu has been bestowed with Adolf Martens Fellowship Award (2009) at the Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany. Each year, the prestigious Adolf Martens Fellowship will be offered to 10 selected fellows from all over the world for one year in the field of Material Science.

  • Solid state joining- friction stir welding
  • Structure-property correlations between different titanium alloys, aluminum and magnesium alloys 
  • Grain Refinement of Titanium, Aluminium and Magnesium alloys
  • Nanocomposites
  • Metal additive manufacturing using fusion-based and solid-state technologies
